Customer Testimonials
J Barber Moving and Storage of Fredericksburg, VA was where I began my move to Florida. My move coordinator, Beverly, was fantastic. Anyone who gets the pleasure of speaking to her will immediately understand what I mean. She answered all my questions and really made me feel at ease with the move. J Barber sent Joe, the driver, to do the Virginia pick up and the Florida drop off. He was great! Very nice, professional, good spirited, and easy going while at the same time very efficient. He made sure all the floors, stair rails, and door facings were covered to avoid any damage. He took care to inventory all the furniture and boxes and made sure everything was properly loaded on the truck. Joe selected a fantastic crew of very hard working individuals (Al, Michael, and Matt) to load my belongings on a shuttle truck (because my driveway wasn't accessible for a larger truck) which was then transferred to a National Van Lines semi truck waiting at the J Barber warehouse. The loadi ng crew wrapped my furniture like it was made of glass. They did such a good job and all my furniture made it without a scratch. Everyone on the pick up crew was courteous and professional. They weren't on their phones or taking smoke breaks as I've experienced in the past.
Once in Florida, Joe contacted me to let me know he was in town, and set up a delivery time for the following day. He contracted a local crew (Thomas and James) to unload the truck and set up the furniture in my new home. They worked quickly and did a great job of placing things where I wanted them. They were good natured and made friendly conversation as they worked. No smoking or phone usage on the Florida end either. Joe double checked the area to ensure the furniture was put back together properly and all the trash was picked up. I really appreciated that the pick up driver and the drop off driver was the same person. Anytime it is possible to use the same driver, I would highly recommend doing so .
I've moved several times but never using a semi truck so I was nervous about my stuff being transferred once it left my departing house. I can now say without a doubt, my uncertainty was unfounded. This was by far the best move I've ever had. Very smooth and professional. I really can't say enough about how well the move went from beginning to end.
Had an awesome and super smooth experience with NVL (Sam Meredeth), Enrique Salazar (Relax Relocations) and both moving teams on each side!!!! Sam was very responsive and on top of everything, making it very easy and clear to understand the coverage, cost, expectations etc. Enrique was awesome! He was professional, attentive, helpful and super personable. We are so grateful for his care and partnership with our move and all our stuff. We had a lot of really heavy items and furniture that Enrique and both moving teams moved with care, intention and like it was nothing. We had no damage, no lost items and complete confidence throughout the move. This was the first time we let go of moving it all ourselves and driving and we were in GREAT hands the whole way. I appreciate Enrique, Sam and the movers through this stressful time. Thanks
We moved from Brandenton, FL to Watertown, NY. A huge move for us. Lots of planning and details to be checked off. We worked with Jeff Chapman from Yarnell Moving in Sarasota Florida. He was prompt and proffesional and both personable and understanding at the same time. He did the initial assessment of our move. He came to our home to view what was moving and created a reasonable quote for us. He was quick to respond to any questions or concerns we had with our move. As we continued to pa ck and realized our move was larger than the original quote, Jeff worked with us to include our additional property.
We were then contacted by National Van Lines to set up pickup and delivery times. Each time we were contacted, the agent was courteous and helpful. National Van lines contacted us the week before the move to insure us everything was in order.
The day of the move we met the driver Blane and his helper Mayfield. They both were very efficeint and caring of our property while loading the truck. They took very good care of our furniture wrapping them in moving blankets for protection. We had a double pickup and deliviery for this move. First at our residence and then at a storage facility across town. Upon delivery, they unloaded and stored part of our belongings at a storage facility in New York and then again at our new residence. They handled all areas well. Blane kept in touch with us during their drive north to New York.
We were in constant contact with t hem that gave us the reassuring that our property was on the way. Our delivery window was between March 19 and March 24. They delivered on the 22nd.
I would recommend National Van Lines to anyone making a move. We were very pleased with their service.
After reading reviews online of various moving experiences (most of them bad), we were mentally preparing for the worst. Our experience was actually great and relatively hassle-free.
The pros:
1. We got a quote that was way cheaper than we anticipated and Joe assured us that there wouldn't be any hidden costs after we locked the rate in. And there weren't.
2. The movers were very nice and they packed everything up extremely well.
3. Our stuff arrived on time and everything was account f or and nothing was damaged.
The cons (hence the 4 stars and not the 5):
1. The date range between when our stuff was supposed to be picked up and when it would delivered was quite wide. To be fair, they were pretty up front about this before the contract was signed. I was told that they would know more close to the date of pick up but I didn't anticipate that that meant two days before the pickup. And it took a lot of calling on my part to get this information.
2. Similarly, there was littl e clarity on when our stuff would get delivered and it took a lot of calling to get this information. Because it was an 18 hour drive to our destination, we had to make hotel reservations on the way and it got a bit dicey not knowing exactly how we should time our arrival. Because of the uncertainty, we had to keep our plans flexible.
3. The movers arrived with fewer boxes than they needed and fewer than what was indicated by National Van Lines. This wasn't the movers fault or NVL's (technicall y). NVL outsources to a middle man company (who sends the movers). The middle man company apparently didn't send enough boxes with the movers. The movers had to run to UPS to try to find more boxes and they were still short. They had to leave a few (minor) things behind which we had to carry with us. Even though this was the fault of the middle man company, NVL should have coordinated this better and been on top of it.
Despite the cons, I will say that the pricing was way better than I expect ed and our stuff arrived on time and in one piece. This is more than most people can say about their moving experience. Literally, everyone I've asked says there experience was awful. All things considered, it all worked out for us so we don't have a lot of complains.
All of the people that we spoke with at NVL and it affiliates couldnt be nicer and more helpful. We had to move sooner than expected and needed to rely on friends to help as we were already out of state. Everyone at NVL was extremely helpful and wanting to make the move as stress-free as possible.
However, our items arrived there were several problems. First, a wooden sculpture was never wrapped and thus arrived damaged. It is a unique piece made especially for us and is irreplaceable le. Also, there was supposed to be a specially married box with the parts to our treadmill and elliptical; however, the box was not kept separate and so we have a delay until those pieces of equipment can be put together.
I was also told that several other items were not wrapped. As our house is still being renovated I will be unable to see all the items moved to our new house until the beginning of April. At that time I will have a better idea if there are other items not properly wrapped.
Overall we had our stuff come by the end of the destined period of time. Unfortunately, our stuff were not wrapped well . we ended up losing our TV screen to an inadequate wrapping. The screen was unloaded literally with no wrap whatsoever. Many boxes was re-taped. I was under the impression that they will take our stuff directly in the same van to its destination but I came to learn that they hired another company to transfer from a warehouse where our things were dumped there.
I would recomm end you do your own wrapping, and search before hiring the company. It is not worth paying a penny for insurance, because they only cover damages more than a 1 thousand dollars. If you can avoid moving across the nation with big stuff with NVL maybe safer, a shorter move may have less likelihood of missing your things. Do not rely on them wrapping or boxing. Invest in good boxes of your own.
For the most part, the service was great. However, they arrived early by about five days. I felt bad that they had to leave everything on the truck for that much time but we didnt own the house when they got to our city. And we had some things that were broken and a few things that I think may be missing but were not sure because we havent been able to dig down into all the boxes yet. Im happy with the service and very happy with Kelly at AQMS.
Our agent, Tom Vintner, was very helpful and tried to keep us updated. There were a number of delays in the shipment - driver got sick, truck broke down. When we finally received an ETA date and some information it was by calling the Customer Service office; they were most helpful. We never were able to get any information off from the NVL tracker; no information on our delivery was ever posted to this online site. In the end, the driver (Andy) was very pleasant and helpful with the delivery . All items came through in good condition.
The loading and unloading was quick and efficient. The movers were curtious and careful. The only complaint is the lack of communication when there was a delay in delivering the household goods. We all know stuff happens. It's much better to keep in contact with the customer so their plans, deadlines, life in general, can be adjusted when problems arise. Should we ever move across country again (God Forbid) we would use National Van LInes again.
Overall the move with National was smooth and as expected. The individual movers did a great
Job for only two laborers worked hard and certainly performed as expected. So far only found a few items damaged but can probably be fixed. Would use this company again and recommend them. Some mix up at the start with times and appointment times resulting in one day delay. Overall satisfied
Our move process went very smoothly mostly. Dennis was great to work with. He worked on the price for us and we enjoyed doing business with him. Taylor moving on the Colorado end of the move was great as well. They were very helpful and all nice guys. LVV Services (I believe thats the name of the company that did the interstate leg) was great as well and the driver was very nice. I was not too happy however with the crew that did the unload on the Tennessee end - Sol crew, I believe. The guys we re polite enough, but I didnt love the way they handled our things. It seemed hasty and without the care that I would expect. On the property there is a detached garage where most of the boxes were going to go, while some of them, plus all of the furniture and bigger items would be going into the house. I told the crew that boxes were labeled storage or where they were going in the house. I said it several times, but I think when they heard they were moving things into a storage unit, they got e xcited for an easy move, and just started going without looking at labels on the boxes at all. For other items, even if they asked me or if I was directing them, things did not end up where they needed to. My wife and I spent a few days taking boxes and other larger items from storage to the house and vice-versa because they didnt check anything. It ended up being a ton of extra work for us! On top of that, they did not seem to be careful with any of the boxes. They just stacked whatever whereve r, and were running up and down the ramp, throwing boxes around to each other - I understand hustle, but there is a right and wrong way to do it, especially when a customer is watching. Many boxes ended up crushed on the bottom of stacks that shouldve been on the top, etc etc. Ive not been through every box to see the extent of any damage since many are in storage, but I will in coming weeks.
There was a dust up between the crew leader and one of his guys that was very unprofessional. It seeme d like they hadnt worked together a ton, and the crew leader was very apologetic about it so I dont hold that too much against them, it just wasnt a great look.
They seemed frustrated when I told them that they were supposed to set up the furniture in the home. Nothing was too much of an issue except our sons bunk bed. I understand some of these pieces can be complicated and they dont have instructions, but I basically had to go in after them, take the whole thing apart, and put it back togeth er correctly. It was entirely loose (no way I was going to let my kids sleep on it!), pieces were switched around - it was a mess. In one place where two pieces of wood butt up together, there are wooden pegs that go in between to hold the pieces together. I guess they couldnt find the small pegs that fit the piece (when I was watching here and there I saw them wrapped up on the ground). Instead that butt joint was very loose and not structurally secure at all. When I took it apart I found
