When it comes to corporate relocation, the easiest part of the whole project may be finding the new location to lease. Moving an entire office can be tricky, but at National Van Lines we believe that if you are prepared, you are more likely to have a good experience that goes as smoothly as possible. Take a look at our checklist to help you plan for your big move.

A Month Before the Move

Starting your preparations early is the best way to ensure a seamless corporate relocation. About a month before your move date, make sure that your moving company is reserved and ready to go. You can start cleaning out closets, meeting rooms and other areas that won’t get much use. If needed, you can hold a garage sale or donate your unwanted items. Make sure that your building owner knows that you are planning to move and take the time to get change of address cards.

One Week Before the Move

This is the best time to start labeling moving boxes for each employee or item that you need relocated. Doing so can help you organize once you are in your new building. It is also a good time to come up with a floor plan so that you can make sure furniture is placed in the right spot.

The Week of the Move

The final week in your old space should be spent packing and cleaning. Each employee should be in charge of packing his or her own desk and cleaning the area surrounding it. Unplug all of the copiers, computers, printers and other electronics that you won’t need in the next few days.

The Day of the Move

It is a smart idea to hold a pre-move conference with all managers to keep everyone on the same page. Give employees roles and responsibilities, but try to limit their participation to allow the professionals to get the move done efficiently.
