If you’re trying to figure out how to move your furniture in the most efficient, safest manner possible, it’s extremely important to know that there is a right way and a wrong way. Failing to move furniture correctly can not only lead to damage, but also could result in serious injuries. There are some tips our professional movers would like to provide that can help make this job easier and safer if that isn’t possible.
Protection
You can use towels, pieces of cloth and even socks to protect the legs of your chairs and tables. If you are wondering how to move your furniture in a way that won’t cause damage, this is one of the most important tips we can offer. Not only will covering the legs help save your furniture, it will also save your floors from scratches, your carpeting from tears and your doors from dents.
If you are moving mirrors or pictures, one of the best ways to protect them is by using cardboard. Use the original box if possible or find one that is a similar size. If you have other fragile items such as plates, remember that bubble wrap is your best option. Get as much bubble wrap as you can and wrap your items in several layers.
Particularly fragile or expensive items can be crated for ultimate protection. Be sure to list these items on your High Value Inventory form. While pictures, artwork and mirrors can be well protected in cardboard, a crate may be a better option for those of high monetary or emotional value.
In the Truck
Once you move your furniture out of your home and you’re ready to load it into the moving truck, make sure you use plenty of padding between large pieces such as couches and larger chairs. This will keep them from rubbing together and eliminate potential damage due to friction. Blankets will obviously work well. Just remember to wash them after the move is complete. Talk to your mover about packing supplies they have on hand. They should have boxes, padding and blankets specifically designed for the moving process.
Again, we recommend you use professionals when moving your furniture. An expert will be able to complete the job much more quickly and will also have all of the supplies needed to move your valuable items safely and effectively.
